Energy Strategy and Project Delivery Support For Defence Customer Case Study

Expert delivery of complex energy and carbon reduction initiatives, with strict adherence to set budgets and timelines in a highly regulated and agile environment

The Challenge

Our customer from the defence/government industry wanted support to shape energy and carbon reduction plans across their facilities. They sought to improve energy efficiency to lower both supply and operational costs, whilst aiming to reduce carbon emissions to align with their 2030, 2040 and 2050 Net Zero and ESG targets.

To enhance operational energy efficiency, the customer wanted to secure an experienced, tactical and commercially focussed FM who could define the best way to update their building management systems for current and future demands. They were also looking for expert engineering-led delivery to safely install and maintain existing and new equipment, without disrupting their business-as-usual operations or inconveniencing their employees.

Our Approach

To reduce energy use and transition away from fossil fuels, we implemented a comprehensive solution focused on asset optimisation and replacement. This involved the deployment of sensors, controls and systems automation to enhance operational asset management and building systems across their estate. We upgraded and recommissioned HVAC systems, incorporating heat decarbonisation technologies such as heat pumps.

Additionally, we transitioned to LED lighting, installing advanced controls and additional meters for precise energy monitoring within their buildings. To harness renewable energy sources, we implemented solar PV, solar thermal systems and wind systems. Finally, we facilitated the adoption of electric vehicles by installing and managing an on-site EV infrastructure.
