EMCOR UK unveils its 2024 Sustainability Report, highlighting significant achievements and commitments

EMCOR UK has published its 2024 Sustainability Report, demonstrating its commitment to sustainability and outlining key accomplishments and future goals.
Highlights for 2023 include:
- Gold Award from SFMI: Achieved the Gold Award from the Sustainable Facilities Manager Index (SFMI) in its inaugural assessment.
- UN Global Compact Signatory: Officially became a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact initiative, reinforcing EMCOR UK’s commitment to sustainable and responsible business practices.
- Economic and Social Value Contributions: Delivered £51 million in social and local economic value (of accounts measured) and was ranked in the top 10% of the Social Value Portal’s members for delivering social value in 2023.
- Holistic Sustainability Focus: Embedded a consistent and comprehensive focus on sustainability throughout its services and operations, aiming for net zero emissions.
- Colleague Support: For the second consecutive year, have paid all its colleagues the Real Living Wage or above; created a new female leadership apprentice programme; provided allyship training for 200 senior leaders and was named as the UK’s 37th most inclusive employer by Inclusive Companies.
- Social Mobility: Signatories of Armed Forces and Care Leavers Covenants and collaborated with Department of Work & Pensions to support the reintegration of ex-offenders into the workplace.
With the built environment currently contributing 40% of the UK’s total carbon footprint, many organisations have set ambition targets to achieve net zero. EMCOR UK partners with its customers to help them achieve their net zero and sustainability targets through customised pathways and has created solutions that drive evidence-based decisions and strategic guidelines for energy optimisation and carbon reduction.

“Our efforts have focused on integrating sustainability into our daily culture, thinking, and behaviours. We've seen significant development across our services, helping our customers achieve their environmental and social objectives. Energy, carbon management, waste management, and circular economy solutions remain critically important to our customers and we have the relevant expertise to support them in these specialist areas.”
EMCOR UK has set its own ambitious targets including:
- Aiming for net zero in its operations by 2030 and 2040 for its value chain emissions
- Generating one third of its turnover (from accounts measured) from activities delivering social value by 2026
- Establishing sustainability as one of its five key measurements of success of its new strategy
- On-going commitment to support its customers in their net zero goals through comprehensive energy and carbon strategies and project delivery.
