What we helped achieve


We began working with NATS in 2003. Our successful partnership was extended in 2007, with a ten-year framework agreement covering 121,000 square metres. They chose us for our expertise, knowledge, flexibility and our understanding of the critical nature of providing an uninterrupted air traffic control service. NATS relies on us for total support and reassurance - we solve problems as they arise, and, wherever possible, plan ahead to prevent them happening. We have over 200 people working at key NATS sites across the UK, including air traffic control centres in Swanwick and Prestwick, their Corporate and Technical Centre in Whiteley, air traffic control towers at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports, and their executive offices in London, Edinburgh and Heathrow.

The challenges we had to overcome

  • The volcanic ash cloud of 2010 was a challenging time for the industry - we created a central hub for NATS’ Air Traffic Incident Coordination and Communication Cell (ATICCC) within 48 hours and set about making reactive savings by reducing services where possible
  • The need to generate cost savings during the volcanic ash cloud - we made reactive savings by reducing services where possible, with minimal disruption to NATS
  • Flooding at their London office - we responded immediately to get them up and running again
  • Large-scale portfolio changes - we demobilised the Hurn site, moving all operations to the CTC in Whiteley and completing the data and communications installations for their air traffic control workstations

How we helped

  • Performed projects of all sizes - we completed the road surfacing works at their Swanwick facility, refurbished the restaurant at the CTC, and provide airfield driving services at Heathrow Airport
  • Assisted with moves - we scaled down use of their Keynsham warehouse and moved all the spares stored there to other facilities
  • Held joint safety days and continually train staff - this engaged both ours and NATS’ employees and instils the all-round safety requirements of aircraft crew and passengers, helping them to understand the part they play in keeping aircraft safely in the sky
  • Worked with NATS’ trade unions - this ensured we provided good value food for their employees, and maintained service levels that match their requirements
