London, 15 January 2019: Leading facilities management provider, EMCOR UK, has achieved conformity to the new international standard for sustainable procurement – ISO 20400. EMCOR UK is the first organisation in the facilities management sector to gain conformity.
The ISO 20400 standard guides organisations of any size on integrating sustainability into their procurement process. As the world looks to a greener and more sustainable future, conformity to the standard ensures EMCOR UK follows the principles of sustainable procurement, including accountability, transparency, respect for human rights and ethical behaviour, and highlights key considerations such as environmental impact and risk management. It also covers the steps required to integrate social responsibility into procurement activities.
Ensuring the sustainability of the supply chain through ISO 20400 is just the latest step in EMCOR UK’s journey to instil sustainability as a core business value. The facilities management leader is also a founding partner of the FM Supply Chain Sustainability School – an industry wide collaboration determined to raise standards within supply chains. The School provides practical support to the FM sector through a series of comprehensive, free at the point of use learning resources – comprising of e-learning modules, online resources, action plans, and sustainability training. The school also runs events, networking and resources to help stakeholders understand what is required to deliver a responsible and ethical supply chain.
Adoption of ISO 20400 demonstrates that EMCOR UK, along with key supply chain partners, prioritises sustainable procurement as integral to its day-to-day operations and continues to contribute positively to the environment, society and the economy as a whole.
EMCOR UK CEO Keith Chanter commented: “EMCOR UK seeks to act responsibly in serving all of our stakeholders, and this is evident in the drive we have to work with our supply chain in ensuring these principles are adopted. We seek to drive, and maintain, high standards in sustainability and working to the guidelines laid down by ISO 20400 has helped us focus on the areas required to demonstrate our approach in this business critical area. We look forward to continuing this development with our supply chain partners and thank them for their continued support.”
